6 Weeks till D-Day

I'm 34 weeks which means there are only 6 weeks till my July 2 due date. Where has the time gone!?!

The Scurlock household has had a lot going in the past few weeks.  For starters, we moved into a bigger apartment which has allowed me to start "nesting."  Dad put together the crib on Mother's Day and that was super exciting.

The nursery is coming together nicely and there are only a few more finishing touches to add before baby girl's space will be complete.  For now, here's a few sneak peek pictures.

Josh finished OBGYN and started Family Medicine this past week.  He is doing outpatient Family Med and so his schedule is pretty light.  Finally, a rotation where he has every weekend off!  We got to take advantage of the first weekend off to attend his cousin John's wedding in Bakersfield.

So how am I feeling? Because that seems to be everyone's first question.

Well, pretty good overall. Sure my feet and back are starting to hurt a bit, I have a difficult time putting on shoes with straps, sleeping is becoming increasingly difficult, and I can hardly walk up the stairs without feeling like I need to catch my breath, but I feel it's all fairly minimal discomfort. Maybe the worst is yet to come?

Almost 34 Weeks

So far, no stretch marks and lots of movement from baby girl (mostly at night when I'm trying to sleep). Still no kicks to the ribs, but I have a feeling those are coming soon. And yes, we have a name, but the middle name, according to Josh, is still up for debate. We'll see about that. So no official announcement just yet. :) 

Where have we been?

Well,  between bachelorette parties in Vegas, weddings in Southern CA, Step I taking, Pismo beach vacays with the family, apartment hunting in Redlands, and packing to move, we've been a little bit busy.  And by a little, I really mean a lot!

Unfortunately, in the midst of real life, my blogging has fallen by the wayside.  For some reason, I just seem to have less time on my hands than when I lived on a 22 mile long island in the middle of the Caribbean.  Go figure.  But I haven't forgotten about my island...go Kirani James!!

So, let's catch you up on what's been going on this past month.

I traveled to Las Vegas with Julie for her bachelorette party in early July.  We had such a blast!

The next week, we left for Camarillo so Josh could take his USMLE.  We also attended our friends Riley and Gabby's wedding in Malibu, CA.  We hadn't seen Josh's Whittier friends since our wedding two years ago!

After a long weekend of wedding shenanigans, we headed back to Bakersfield where we quickly found out that we had been placed in Colton, CA for Josh's clinical rotations!  There wasn't much time to look for apartments because we were scheduled to head to Pismo Beach with some of Josh's family.

It was a wild five days with our three nephews and the rest of the fam.  But we had so much fun enjoying the sun, bike riding, boogie boarding, and eating our fill of Splash Cafe and frozen yogurt.

Once back from our trip to the beach, we didn't waste any time before heading down to Redlands to look for a place to live.

And guess what?!? We found one. Yay!  We move next Saturday.

And we are so excited! I can't wait to use all of our wedding gifts that have been in storage for two years and be able to get in our own routine.  And! Possibly get a dog!!!

This next will be super busy as we prepare to move...again.  But we can't wait! Prayers that everything goes smoothly are always appreciated!!

Alexa & Micah's Wedding

I was so excited and honored to be asked to be part of Alex's wedding (she prefers to be called Alexa these days but she will always be Alex to me).  Josh and I knew it would be tough to spend the money to come home for a week in April, but I'm so glad I did.  I can't imagine not being a part of their big day. 

It was everything you think of when the word "wedding" comes to mind.  The bride was beautiful, the groom handsome, the reception was decorated so elegantly, and the love in the room was so strong it could be felt by everyone.

Thank you Mrs. Alexa Golden-Grant for asking me to be a part of your big day.  I am so very glad I could be there for you as you became a Mrs. just like you were there for me when I did.  I love you and Micah very much and hope you are enjoying your Hawaiian Honeymoon!

My Absence in Blogging This Week...

...Has been majorly due to the fact that I'M IN BAKERSFIELD! 

I've been here since Monday night for one of my very best friend Alexa's wedding today!  I've been busy catching up with friends and family and helping Alex prepare for the big day.

Last night was the rehersal dinner and today is sure to be jam packed with wedding fun.  I can't wait. The only thing that would be better is if Josh were here.

Congratulations to Micah and Alexa! I know today is going to be so special and that your life together will be filled with happiness. I love you both!

I'm back to Grenada and my Joshua on Tuesday and will be back to blogging regularly then. Until then, happy wedding day!

A Forever Friend

When beginning this adventure into the foregin medical school world, I knew that one of the hardest parts of being away from home would be not having any friends near us.  At the start of school in England last August, I could only hope that I would meet a few girls that I could get to know and connect with on ANY sort of level.  And I did. I met a handful of fellow SO's who have become great friends whom I love dearly. 

In January, I was connected up with a girl that was coming to Newcastle.  She emailed me asking all kinds of questions like "Where do we bank? Where should we live?  Are the grocery stores normal?  What about converters?  How busy will my fiance be?"  I answered all of her questions and she continued to ask more and more.  The emails went back and forth until January when she moved with her fiance to Newcastle. 

Being the outgoing and talkative person that I am, I basically forced her to be my friend once she got to the UK.  :)  They lived just down the street from Josh and I and I met her face to face and kept asking her to do things with me.  After just a few weeks, a real friendship began to form.  Soon we were spending most days together, whether it was taking a walk in Jesmond Dene, heading into City Center to do errands, getting lunch, grocery shopping, or making up a bootcamp workout and having lunch at the park on sunny days, we were always together.

 
Josh and I even took a trip with them at the end of term to Ibiza, Spain.  And while we were home in CA for the break, they came to visit us in Bakersfield since they live only an hour away in Valencia.  She is heading back to the UK this month since her fiance has his second term starting next week.  We won't see them again until January when they join us in Grenada.  And. I. Can't. Wait.

  
I knew well before I left the UK in May that I had made a forever friend.  A girl that no matter the distance, I would continue to talk to and keep up with.  It sounds like a long distance relationship huh?!?  Well, I guess it kind of is.  We have continued to talk regularly through Facebook and Skype since I got to Grenada.

 
This past week, a package arrived for me from her.  A sweet note told me to open the present wrapped inside.  And here's what was inside.

My forever friend Julie asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding next July.  I was shocked, thrilled, and honored all at the same time.  I am SO excited to be a part of her and Kevin's special day.

It's not often that you make good friends like this, especially once out of college.  But I think Julie and I were meant to find each other.  God put us in the same place at the same time because He knew we needed each other.  I love this girl very much.
