Reunited...

...And it feels so good!

I landed in Grenada last night around 7:00pm.  Josh was there to welcome me with open arms, haul my bags to the car, and get me over to the field to help cheer him on in the intramural flag football championship game. 

As tired as I was, having gotten up at 2:30am and traveling all day, I was so glad I got to be there to watch Toon Squad win their second in a row flag football trophy.  I didn't remember to bring my camera to the game, but luckily, one of SGU's students Danny Garcia was there to document the evening.  He is part of SGU's photography club and based on some of his shots from last night, I'd say he's got some real talent, ya know, if the doctor thing doesn't work out. :)

A Whirlwind Week...

...while my family was in town.

Dad, Mom, and Rachel flew in a week ago today and just as quickly as they got here, they left.  We had a great week together on my island.  And my lack of blogging has been due to the fact that we have been packing every moment of their time here in Grenada with island adventures.  I think it's going to take a few posts to catch you up on all of our fun.

So let's start from the beginning.

On Sunday, we took them on a tour of SGU's campus.

And then headed over to Grand Anse Beach where we enjoyed lots of sunshine and some cool drinks.

 When it was time for lunch, I took the family over to Umbrellas for some burgers and fries.

And to round out day #1, we went to watch Josh play flag football on campus.  In case you were wondering, they won.

Sunday was the most low-key day of the week.  Check back soon to see the rest of the weeks adventures!

Champions X2

It's been an adrenaline pumping past two days in the Scurlock household.  And no, I'm not talking about exams. 

This term Josh played on both an intramural basketball and flag football team.  I really don't know how he was able to keep up with his classes considering on average he had about 3 games a week this entire term.  Although I know it has been nice for him to be able to burn off some steam and get away from the books for an hour or so each night.  Both of his teams made it to the final game of the season, the championship. 

Basketball was Monday night.  Lots of fans came out for the KBT (Keith B. Taylor) vs. Local Grenadians game.  From the looks of it, Josh's team seemed a little outmatched.  Can you tell why? :)

It was a VERY exciting game that came down to a tie game with 5 seconds to go and a buzzer beater shot that went in.  And we WON!  KBT won the game and finished their season undefeated!

But the games weren't over yet, the football championship still had to be played.  This time it was Toon Squad vs. Beast Mode.  I guess I have to say that this game wasn't quite as nerve wracking.  Josh's team won 27-6.  But then again, no other team in the league has a professional quarterback throwing for them. :)

They aren't #2, they just won two championships!

And how could they not win?  They had the best fans ever!

I know it's just intramurals and most some of the time people take these games WAY to seriously, but they were still fun to watch.  It brought me back to Josh's college football games and it provided some great entertainment.

It couldn't have ended any better for these two teams.  I guess next season he is going to have his work cut out for him as Josh's teams will be the team to beat for both sports!

First Visitors on the Rock

As I mentioned in my previous post, we had some visitors last week! Josh's oldest sister Kristin and her boyfriend Brandon traveled from California to spend a week with us in Grenada.  I had such a great time with them.  Josh was pretty busy studying all week, but that didn't keep the three of us from having lots of fun.  They arrived late Tuesday night.  So Wednesday morning, after they slept in a little, we headed to Grand Anse Beach.  We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and then headed to Umbrellas for a late afternoon lunch of burgers and fries.

Later that evening, we went over to the school to watch Josh play in an intramural basketball game. His team won! Yay!  Although Kristin definitely takes after her Mom when watching Josh play sports.  Brandon and I had to keep telling her to be quiet! :)

Thursdays are pool days at the University Club for all the SO's.  So I took our visitors to the pool for the day.  Brandon and Kristin kayaked around the bay and we all enjoyed the pool.

 I think Brandon was really in need of a vacation...

Relaxation at its finest!

We picked Josh up from school around 5pm, but he still needed to get some good study time in.  His first set of midterms are quickly approaching.  So the three of us took a walk up Lance Aux Epines Road to the lookout point to watch the sunset.

There are SO many beautiful flowers here in Grenada.  I tried to make a point of taking pictures of the ones along our walk.

And of course Kristin and I needed to pose by some of them.

Once we finally made it to the lookout point, the sunset didn't disappoint.

It was gorgeous...as usual.  I just wish Josh could have enjoyed it with us.

The first two days were so much fun! But keep checking back for more fun adventures with our visitors!

We are the champions

Okay, maybe not "we," but Josh and the four members of his basketball tournament team were!  Last night, Josh played in a basketball tournament at SGU.  It was 3 on 3 and 13 teams played in this double-elimination type tournament. 

Tarrah, Allison, and Austin joined me in the cheering section, which was a good thing considering that we were there for over 4 hours and I would have been so bored all alone.  But our cheering paid off, because Josh and his GSP team won the whole thing pretty convincingly!

It was fun to watch and cheer for Josh's team.  It takes me back to the Whittier football days!  Where's my Momma-In-Law Denise and our cow bells when I need them?!?!
