Our Tans Will Fade, But Our Memories Will Last Forever

As with everything in life, all good things must come to an end.  And our time in Ibiza was no exception.  It will be remembered long after our bags have been unpacked, the chlorine has been washed from our bathing suits, and our tans have faded (or in Kevin's case, the sunburn has peeled).  The four days spent by the Mediterranean Sea will be reminisced about through pictures (and blogposts) for years and years to come.

We spent the early part of our last day taking a trip into Old Town Ibiza where the port is.  We admired the boats and expensive yachts and explored the streets and shops, buying a few souveniers along the way.  We were all glad that we took the time to head into town as it really was breathtakingly beautiful.

When we arrived back at the resort, Josh and Kevin decided to sign up for a waterpolo match.  I'm not sure if either of them has ever played before, but it was entertaining to watch them swim around in swim caps after a tiny yellow ball.  Julie and I laughed and enjoyed it from the comfort of our lounge chairs.

His new calling in life??
After the four of us had had our fill of the sun for the day, we rinsed off in our salt water showers (Yes, the shower water as well as the faucet water were salty.  Try brushing your teeth with salt water.  Minty freshness and salt combined = yuck!).  Then we headed down for dinner and a little pool playing.

And as the sun was setting over the Spanish Island, we took a few last shots for the photo albums.

It was after this that we parted ways with Julie and Kevin.  They won't be heading to Grenada until January 2012.  We can't wait to meet up with them again next year.  They will definitely be missed this next term, but we are all glad that we got to spend a little extra time with them in Ibiza.  It was the cherry on top of a great semester.

Josh and I headed to the airport early the next morning and as our plane took off and I snapped photos from my window seat, I couldn't help but be excited about the fact that in a few short weeks, I will be snapping similar photos as we arrive in Grenada for year 2 of medical school.

Soakin' up the Sun

Luckily for us, day two in Ibiza, Spain was much less eventful than day number one.  We spent almost the entire day by the pool and the beach with a little bit of soccer, minature golf, aqua aerobics, and ping pong thrown in to keep things interesting.  I think for this post, I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves. :)

Sunshine and Summertime

Contrary to my last post which, if you missed it, you can read about it HERE, we really did have a great time in Ibiza, Spain.  I took full advantage of the sunshine by worshiping the rays as much as possible during the three days we spent there.

Our good friends Kevin and Julie met us in Ibiza and we were so happy to get to spend some extra days with them since they will still be in Newcastle this next term while we are in Grenada.  The hotel provided LOTS of ways to entertain oneself besides the pool and the beach.  They had activites all day long that you could participate in at no cost and it was great for Kevin and Josh to go off and play darts, pool, ping pong, and waterpolo.  Usually, Josh is pretty sick of being poolside within an hour and I could spend all day every day on a lounge chair in the sun with a book and a cocktail.  So it was good that there were other things for the boys to do.

The first day, the four of us signed up for pellet gun shooting.  Now, keep in mind that I had never before shot any kind of gun.  So this was a very new experience for me.  Apparently, I may need to learn how to shoot a real gun for our next bed intruder. :)
The first round, I didn't hit the target once.
Crosshairs? What are those?
Everyone, including our instructor Wilson, laughed at Julie and I everytime we pointed that gun.

Guns are not one of my favorite accessories.
Josh did much better than I did.
By the time the second round came up, I had it all figured out.

Notice the almost bullseye!?!
We ended the day with dinner and some drinks at the resort.

Day one in Spain was fabulous, but days two and three were just as great.  Check back soon for more Ibiza posts!

Spanish Bed Intruder??

"He's climbin' in your windows.
He's snatchin' your people up.
He's tryna rape em.
So ya'll need to hide your kids,
hide your wives, and hide your husbands
cuz they're rapin' everybody out here."
-Antoine Dodson

I think that unless you were living in a dark hole this last year, just about everyone in America has seen and heard the infamous "Bed Intruder Song".  Heck, even everyone in England has seen and heard it as well!  !
Anyway, while in Ibiza, Spain for the second half of our "European Bucket List,"  Josh and I had the pleasure of experiencing our own version of the bed intruder.  I don't want to worry anyone.  God was obviously watching us that first night in Spain by allowing Josh to be a suprisingly light sleeper and quick to respond in what was probably the best way possible.

We were staying on the second floor of a beautiful resort on the island of Ibiza.  Our hotel room balcony had a fantastic view of the Mediterranean Sea.  And the 80 degree plus weather combined with the salty sea breeze was just what the doctor ordered after 10 months of drizzly Newcastle days.  It just goes to show you that second floor rooms really do give you a false sense of security.

At approximately 2:30 am, I was awakened from my deep slumber to my husband yelling at the top of his lungs, in a deep voice I could hardly recognize.  It went something like this:

Stephanie is startled awake by what she THINKS is her husband yelling.

Josh yelling: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE! GET OUT! GET OUT!  I SAID GET OUT!"

Stephanie finally realizes that yes, this is her husband who's yelling.  But in her half asleep half awake state, she wonders, "Why is he yelling at the lady coming into clean the room?"

Stephanie quickly comes to the realization that #1, It's the middle of the night and cleaning ladies don't come until the morning.  And #2, this person is coming in through the sliding glass door of the balcony instead of the front door.

Josh rushes toward the balcony door, with his arms out wide (like when body builders can't let there arms hang normal because their muscles are too big).   I think animal instincts were coming into play here (deep voice, make yourself bigger).

The door is wide open and the man who had opened the door and was coming through the curtains says "Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" runs out, and jumps from balcony to balcony to escape.

Stephanie quickly realizes that "Oh my goodness, a man had just broken into our room and if Josh hadn't woken up, we could have been robbed...or worse!"

Yes my friends, this is how our days in Ibiza began.  We aren't sure how this man got up to our balcony or why we were idiots and left our door unlocked.  But we are sure that thankfully, nothing was stolen and no one was hurt.  The only thing shaken was our peace of mind.  We were immediately switched to a fourth floor room which helped ease our nerves a little for the rest of the trip.

So with that said, on to more fun and less scary parts of our Spanish Experience!  Stay tuned for the good stuff!
