4th of July 2015

Okay, so this post is obviously way late, but we've had a lot going on around here.  Between 2nd  birthday parties, my mom's visit to MA, nursery designing and completion (mostly), transitioning Ryan out of the crib and into a bed, basement belongings covered in mold, car repairs to both cars, a month of nights for Josh, and about 37483 other things, Independence Day kind of got lost in the shuffle.

However, it did happen.  We did celebrate, kind of, and I have a few pictures to prove it.

Like I mentioned, Josh has been on nights throughout the entire month of July.  His only night off during the week is Saturday night (which the 4th happened to fall on) but, he works Friday nights so he sleeps the majority of the day on Saturdays.  It was also rather overcast here in Massachusetts on the 4th so Ryan and I just did our normal day to day routine most of the day.  I did however venture out to the grocery store in red, white and blue attire for the necessities to make an Independence Day worthy meal complete with cheeseburgers, corn on the cob, watermelon, and homemade ice-cream.  It was kind of like being at Gramma Catie's backyard in California, sort of, okay not really.

But, we did have Bomb Pops, aka: "poccles" according to Ryan.  So obviously her July 4th was made.

I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday.  It's typically one of my favorites of the year and I'm hoping next year Josh will be a little less sleepy, I'll be a little less pregnant, and it will be a little more exciting!

July 4th Fun

Our 4th of July was actually very uneventful.  Josh had to work part of the day and it rained literally ALL day long.  Ryan and I didn't leave the house the entire day and instead, decided to spend the 4th watching about 5 Disney movies, which is likely one of my favorite parts of having a child in my house....I have an excuse to watch Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Frozen on repeat.   Missing the 4th of July has actually become quite a trend in the Scurlock family over the years.  In 2010 we were flying back to California from our honeymoon in Cozumel.  In 2011 we were in Grenada and Josh had class all day.  On the Fourth of July 2012 Josh was studying for Step 1 and last year, 2013, we were in the hospital after just having had Ryan!

We did however, get to celebrate Independence day on July 6th with all of our Mommy/Baby friends AND their husbands!  And as a bonus, Josh magically didn't have to work so he was in fact able to join us!  We bbq'd at Nikki, Luke, and Layla's beautiful home in Rutland, MA  and enjoyed peach bellinis, delicious cheeseburgers, and a few games of corn hole.   It was such a great day with amazing people (and the husbands aren't too bad either)! Ha!

I was so excited about Ryan's 4th of July attire.  Of course, getting a picture of her in it was like trying to give a stray cat a bath.  Completely painful and frustrating.  But in the end, I think we got a somewhat decent picture.  And for the record, while I think TOMS shoes are completely adorable on, they are so impractical! Seriously, I have a love/hate relationship with them.  The shoes are soooo challenging to get on and then they fall off far too easily.  Just a random mom rant for ya!

Independence Day

The great thing about living in a foreign country when you are American is that you get to celebrate most American holidays twice.  Once on the actual holiday, which is not a holiday in the foreign country and once on the day that just works best to celebrate.  As was the case with Independence Day.  We celebrated the fourth of July last Saturday because that was the day that no one had class and then we of course had to celebrate a little yesterday because how can you not celebrate the 4th on the 4th?

We had a BBQ at Allison and Ryan's house in Lance Aux Epines with a lot of our good friends from Newcastle.  Everyone brought their own meat to cook on Ryan's grill and a side dish to share.  We had a great time grilling and hanging out with each other.  We ended the night playing "The Game of Things, " which, if you haven't played, you need to head to Target right now and get!  It was a great 4th of July and as is usually the case, Josh and I have made new holiday memories with our SGU family.

4th of July...On the 2nd

Since the 4th of July falls on a Monday this year and currently Josh and I live in yet ANOTHER country that doesn't celebrate some of the major American holidays...Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day (What the heck were we thinking moving here?!?), my new friend Kelsey hosted a Fourth of July potluck at Grand Anse Beach for all of us Americans.  Oh yeah, and we celebrated Canada Day which is on July 1st as well.

I tried to get a little festive with my potluck additions and I think they turned out pretty great!

It could not have been a better day for a potluck at the beach.  The sun was shining and ocean water was crystal clear.  We've been here almost two weeks and I still can't believe we actually LIVE here.

It was such a fun day, celebrating America's independence.  And even though it wasn't 4th of July in Gramma's backyard pool with the cousins, Uncle Jerry BBQ'ing, Mom's homemade icecream, and Dad lighting fireworks in the front yard, it was still a great day.

On another note, I've been snorkeling around everytime I go to the beach these last couple of weeks looking for shells.  Look at my findings in just two weeks!
