Spanish Bed Intruder??

"He's climbin' in your windows.
He's snatchin' your people up.
He's tryna rape em.
So ya'll need to hide your kids,
hide your wives, and hide your husbands
cuz they're rapin' everybody out here."
-Antoine Dodson

I think that unless you were living in a dark hole this last year, just about everyone in America has seen and heard the infamous "Bed Intruder Song".  Heck, even everyone in England has seen and heard it as well!  !
Anyway, while in Ibiza, Spain for the second half of our "European Bucket List,"  Josh and I had the pleasure of experiencing our own version of the bed intruder.  I don't want to worry anyone.  God was obviously watching us that first night in Spain by allowing Josh to be a suprisingly light sleeper and quick to respond in what was probably the best way possible.

We were staying on the second floor of a beautiful resort on the island of Ibiza.  Our hotel room balcony had a fantastic view of the Mediterranean Sea.  And the 80 degree plus weather combined with the salty sea breeze was just what the doctor ordered after 10 months of drizzly Newcastle days.  It just goes to show you that second floor rooms really do give you a false sense of security.

At approximately 2:30 am, I was awakened from my deep slumber to my husband yelling at the top of his lungs, in a deep voice I could hardly recognize.  It went something like this:

Stephanie is startled awake by what she THINKS is her husband yelling.

Josh yelling: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE! GET OUT! GET OUT!  I SAID GET OUT!"

Stephanie finally realizes that yes, this is her husband who's yelling.  But in her half asleep half awake state, she wonders, "Why is he yelling at the lady coming into clean the room?"

Stephanie quickly comes to the realization that #1, It's the middle of the night and cleaning ladies don't come until the morning.  And #2, this person is coming in through the sliding glass door of the balcony instead of the front door.

Josh rushes toward the balcony door, with his arms out wide (like when body builders can't let there arms hang normal because their muscles are too big).   I think animal instincts were coming into play here (deep voice, make yourself bigger).

The door is wide open and the man who had opened the door and was coming through the curtains says "Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" runs out, and jumps from balcony to balcony to escape.

Stephanie quickly realizes that "Oh my goodness, a man had just broken into our room and if Josh hadn't woken up, we could have been robbed...or worse!"

Yes my friends, this is how our days in Ibiza began.  We aren't sure how this man got up to our balcony or why we were idiots and left our door unlocked.  But we are sure that thankfully, nothing was stolen and no one was hurt.  The only thing shaken was our peace of mind.  We were immediately switched to a fourth floor room which helped ease our nerves a little for the rest of the trip.

So with that said, on to more fun and less scary parts of our Spanish Experience!  Stay tuned for the good stuff!
