What Is It Like To Be OVERDUE

It feels like you are going to be pregnant FOREVER.

It feels like your body is failing you.  Why won't you go into labor already?!?!

It feels like you have the absolute most stubborn child in the world.  Seriously, 40 weeks wasn't enough?

Every extra day, hour, minute that you are pregnant feels like an extra month.

It seems like every person you know is more anxious than you are for your baby to arrive, except there is NO WAY IN HELL anyone wants this baby to be born more than you do.

Every time you feel a twinge of tightening in your abdomen you wish with all your might that labor is beginning only to quickly realize it's just gas.

You cringe when people tell you "baby will come when they are ready" because you also know that baby may also have to come when the doctor is ready for you to be induced.

Your maternity clothes are starting to shrink not fit and you only mildly question how appropriate it is to leave the house with a peek-a-boo belly.

You begin to wonder how much damage this child is going to do to you when coming out now that they've had EXTRA time to grow bigger and bigger.

You do laundry on an every other day basis because God forbid you have to go to the hospital without your favorite tank or maxi dress being clean.

Speaking of things done every other day...you've frequented the grocery store more times in the last three weeks than you care to count in order to make sure there is enough milk, strawberries, and fishy crackers for the people watching your two year old when you do actually go to the hospital.

The last thing you feel like doing when carrying 30 extra pounds is be on your feet yet you go and walk two miles daily trying to "walk the baby out" only to exhaust yourself more and produce no labor.

You know getting sleep is going to be awful with a newborn but you are living for the day when it doesn't take an army just to roll over or get out of bed.

You pee more times per day/night than seems physically possible.

You pray having held off stretch marks for the full 40 weeks that you aren't going to be so unlucky as to receive them in these last extra days.

You really really really just want to meet your baby.

39 weeks 4 days
Bags are packed baby girl.

**For the record I'm currently 40 weeks and 1 day.

Big Sis Transitions And Pig Tails

As my due date for baby girl #2 quickly slowly approaches, next Wednesday, August 26th, I've been attempting to get Ryan as ready for her transition to big sister as possible.  We talk about "Sissy" daily and when I ask her where Sissy is, she points to my increasingly ginormous belly.  But then again, she points to her own belly and says "Sissy?"  And, she points to Dad's belly and says "Sissy."  Ha!  So I'm thinking her two year old mind hasn't really grasped the concept completely.  And that's to be expected.  I mean after all, she is only 2 years old.   I've been trying to give her extra snuggle time lately while also trying to treat her like a big girl by having her climb into her own highchair, carseat, and not carry her around quite so much.  She's been really interested in taking care of her baby dolls lately and I'm hoping that's a good sign for us all.

I've certainly enjoyed these two years of just having her and I.  She probably won't really remember this time period of just the two of us and all of our adventures together, but I will.  And I will treasure them forever.  Someday I'll be able to show her all of the pictures of the days when it was just Ryan and Mommy.  We make a pretty fabulous twosome but I'm excited to add another little girl to the mix and outnumber Josh by even more in the female to male ratio in this house. :)

With the inevitable change from only child to big sister, I decided it was time to try out a "big sis" hair style.  Ryan hasn't necessarily been blessed with an abundance of hair during her first two years, but I thought we were about to the point where we could try out some pig tails and I was right.  She looks older but it makes my Mama heart melt to see her rocking those piggies!

Of course, I have to bribe her with fruit snacks every time I sit her down to do them.  So, I've stocked up with a Costco sized box of them because they are now a daily necessity....obviously.  Mom's gotta do what Mom's gotta do.

But seriously, could they be any more adorable?  I wonder if her little Sissy will come out with as much hair as Ryan currently has?  Guess we shall see soon!  Speaking of which, we could use some prayers and positive labor thoughts sent this way.  I'm WAY more anxious about this delivery than I was with Ryan's.  Maybe because I know what's coming now and before I was ignorant?  I don't know, but either way, keep the Scurlock family in your mind for the next few weeks as we get through labor, delivery, and the official Big Sister transition period, pig tails included.

Pools , Playdates , and "Poccles"

Seriously, how is it already mid-August?  When you live in Massachusetts, you live for the summer months of June-August because, come September, the weather will be starting to cool down and Fall will be making it's appearance.  I was so anxious for summer this year after surviving our first winter in MA.  And while I'm thrilled in some ways that August is here (currently 38 weeks pregnant and waiting on baby girl #2!), I also feel like the summer has just slipped on by and I'm just now trying to play catch up and enjoy it!

It's probably because, well first of all, we moved at the end of May and I'm just now feeling like we are finally moved into the new house.  Then the entire month of June, Ryan was in a long-leg cast and so our summer activities were limited and then the majority of July, my Mom was out here helping me due to some pre-term pregnancy related issues so we spent a lot of time getting things ready for baby.  Annnnnd, Josh was on nights the whole month which really throws off our days and activities.  However, the last few weeks, Ryan and I have been taking some serious advantage of the warm weather.

We've had playdates, gone to the lake, made trips to Davis Farmland, and spent lots of afternoons in the backyard baby pool or swing complete with "poccles" in hand (both her and I).

We spend a lot of our days outdoors which is just as it should be because I know come November or so, I'll be wishing for these warm sunny days back!

Ry also had her two year check-up and continues to be a happy and healthy little girl at 29.2 lbs and 34 inches tall.  She is still using a bottle before bedtime and nap time, but we did successfully transition her into a regular bed so that her Sissy can have the crib this past month so I'll focus on our successes rather than the things we still need to work on.  Like potty training...cough cough.

As for Sissy-no-name, she is still cooking at 38+ weeks!  Her cousin Austin James decided to make his debut at 37 weeks exactly and we are a tad jealous over here.  However, I'm just trying to soak up these last few solo days with Ryan since I know it is going to drastically change very soon.  I'd like to think she has an idea of what's coming (heck! I don't even know what's coming), but there's no way she gets it.  So I'm soaking up her sweet snuggles and kisses and waiting for the day when I have two girls to cuddle with!
