It's Gettin' HOT In Here

While I am completely and totally loving Grenada and it's beautiful beaches and warm weather...

It's just plain H.O.T.T. HOT.

Sometimes, yes sometimes, you just have to put your head in the freezer.

More Birthdays!

This morning we celebrated our friends Michelle and Rob's daughter Harper's 1st birthday at Grand Anse Beach.  The theme of the party was "Rainbows" and so all that were invited were asked to bring a "Rainbow" themed treat to share.  The weather was a little dreary today, but that didn't stop us from having a fabulous time.

This was my Rainbow addition to the party.
And no, I'm not really that original.  This is a copied idea from Pinterest. I can't get enough of that site.

Lots of other people contributed super cute Rainbow food.  Allison made these adorable sugar cookies.
While Michelle made the most fabulous rainbow birthday cake that must have taken quite some time to make.

It was delicious and the birthday girl loved it!

 Happy 1st Birthday Harper!

Allison's Birthday!

Last night we celebrated Allison's birthday at a local restaurant in Lance aux Epines called Charcoals.  Both Josh and I had heard that it was a pretty good place to get a bite to eat for a relatively inexpensive price.  It did not disappoint.  Both Josh and I had burgers and fries which were good.  But both Allison and Tarrah had the swordfish which I tried and really liked!  Maybe I AM a fish eater.  Who knew?!?!

We gathered with a bunch of our friends and had a fun night of good food and even better company.
The birthday girl, Austin, and I!

I made some funfetti cupcakes and Allison blew out all 29 of her candles!!

We sure do love all these guys.
Happy Birthday Allison!

BBC Beach

Yesterday, while Josh was busy studying away, I went with Allison, Austin, and Ryan to BBC beach for the first time.  I guess it's also called Morne Rouge Beach as well.  I'm not sure exactly why so many beaches here have multiple names.  It makes it ridiculously confusing!  None of us had been to BBC beach before, but we loved it.  I don't think I can say which beach in Grenada is my favorite so far.  I like all of the ones I have been to for different reasons.  BBC is great because it's in a cove, so the waves are extremely kid friendly.  The water is warm, clear, and shallow and you won't find it super touristy like Grand Anse.
Austin was having a blast! That kid is SUCH a water baby.  And, starting this week, he now repeats what I always say to him when I see him "Hey Boo!"

Allison, Ryan, and I took turns snorkeling around looking for shells.  Allison found this gorgeous conch shell!  It's soooo pink and pretty!
We stayed till the sun dipped below the ocean.  I think that no matter how many times I see a Grenadian sunset, I will never ever stop being amazed by it.
Goodnight Grenada
A perfect afternoon spent with friends.

Are you guys getting sick of pictures of the beach yet??  What can I say, it's what I do.

We are the champions

Okay, maybe not "we," but Josh and the four members of his basketball tournament team were!  Last night, Josh played in a basketball tournament at SGU.  It was 3 on 3 and 13 teams played in this double-elimination type tournament.

Tarrah, Allison, and Austin joined me in the cheering section, which was a good thing considering that we were there for over 4 hours and I would have been so bored all alone.  But our cheering paid off, because Josh and his GSP team won the whole thing pretty convincingly!
Winners! Team Name: Keith B. Taylor
It was fun to watch and cheer for Josh's team.  It takes me back to the Whittier football days!  Where's my Momma-In-Law Denise and our cow bells when I need them?!?!

From Rags to Rich...Curls

I know I don't normally post stuff like this, but while obsessively looking at browsing Pinterest  I came across a "pin" of something my Mom used to do for my sisters and I when we were little before things like birthdays, holidays, and gymnastics competitions.  It was a way of curling your hair without using any heat.  I decided that I needed to try doing this again.  You take a dishcloth or towel and cut it up into long thin strips.

Then, you wash your hair, and when your hair is about 85% dry, you take a strip of towel and a bit of hair and wrap your hair around the towel like you would on a curling iron.  Then tie the strip of towel in a knot to hold it in place.  You end up looking something like this.  And your husband will definitely make fun of you.
Please excuse the no make up, sunburnt face, sunglasses tan look. -TIG
You leave it in for a long time, preferably over night, but I suppose if you did it in the morning and left it in all day it would work for an evening out too.  When you wake up in the morning, you just untie and unwrap the curls. And you should end up with something like this.

Yup, definitely works!  I think next time I try it, I will do thicker pieces of hair so that I end up with bigger, looser curls instead of tight, super curly ones.

Magazine Beach

It's been a beach filled weekend here for the Scurlocks!  Yesterday, we went with a group of our friends to Magazine Beach.  This beach is not far from our little apartment in Lance aux Epines.  It's just past the airport and in my opinion, has some of the best snorkeling on the island.  I had been there once already, but Josh had yet to go and so I wanted to make sure that he got to experience it as well.

Magazine Beach
We got there around 1p.m. and immediately jumped in the water for a snorkeling sesh.  I wish we had an underwater camera here, but basically, there are tons of fish at Magazine Beach.  The fish range in size and color and then there are sea urchins, eels, crabs, and my friend Sara said she even saw a small octopus last time!  There are also lots of fun shells and sea glass.

When we got out of the water to take a break for our picnic lunch, we watched as some locals who were hanging out went racing after something down the beach.  When the guy came back, he had this in his hand!
The Grenadian guys showed us how to hold it.  And I KINDA freaked.

I asked the Grenadian man what he was going to name his new found pet.  He replied "lunch."  Yuck!!!  Poor little iguana.  I think we made the guy feel bad though, because later in the day the iguana was still around and I was told his new name was "Lucky."  As in, lucky he wasn't lunch.  But who knows, maybe he was still going to be dinner.

The boys then got invited to join in on a game of cricket.  I'm still not sure that I understand the rules, but they looked like they were having fun.

After the game, they were given a bowl of "soup."  I think the guys felt a little obligated to try it.  Josh was glad he didn't know what was in it until after he finished, otherwise he might not have been able to eat it.  The soup included lambie (meat from a conch shell), tripe (intestines from farm animals), goat, and octopus.  Doesn't that sound good!?! Haha. Considering that Lucky was going to be Lunch, I'm not surprised.
I was REALLY glad that I wasn't around to get a bowl.  Instead, I took a walk down the beach to look for shells and take some pictures.

Don't you want to visit?!?
We all had a really good time.
Including Marley.
I just love it here.
